You won’t get any desert in Istanbul, but it’s amazing and huge—Marrakech isn’t really in the desert either, but there is the Western Sahara you can visit in Morocco, but it’s quite a drive from Marrakech. Marrakech is closer to the High Atlas mountains. But, it’s a toss-up between the two! Good luck choosing :)

Carpet weaving is an important tradition in the Moroccan Berber culture; here, an entourage of women weaves an elaborate, sophisticated system of designs into a large carpet that can take up to three months to complete, working around the clock.

Thick berber soup called harira is a wonderful meal. It’s main ingredients are tomatoes, chick peas, lentlis, onions, spices (mainly saffron, ginger, pepper), herbs like parsley etc. Ingredients and consistency of soup vary in different regions, so you must try it whenever you can. Get a recipe here.

Must maaaaaake.

Me and Max on top of a dune in the Sahara at sunset using self timer. Best photo of us ever, I think.
